Spring & Fall Lawn Cleanup Services in Norfolk County and Waterloo Region

Although we joke in Canada that we often have four seasons in one day, there is a notable change in the terrain in the Spring and Fall. These changes can also vary from one end of our coverage area in Norfolk County (Port Dover, Simcoe, Delhi, and Waterford) to the far reaches of the other (Cambridge), making it even more challenging to anticipate the needs of our customers. The Jody’s Lawn Care (JLC) crews are happy to help you keep up with our ever-changing natural landscapes and are well equipped to make the seasonal shifts easier on you and your property through Spring and Fall clean ups.

We like to schedule our Spring Clean Ups as the first service we provide in the season. Your green space deserves to be revitalized, refreshed and maintain safe parameters along your property.  The goal is to help prepare your property for the warmer weather, clearing the way for new growth and easier access to trouble spot areas that may need some help.  Some of the tasks we ensure to cover in our cleanups include:

  • cutting down perennial plants (Sedums, Black-Eyed Susans, Butterfly Bushes etc.) and ornamental grasses
  • blowing out all accessible gardens
  • tidying/brushing back gravel onto laneways and driveways that have been moved throughout the year, or scraped out during snow removal
  • tidying up/collecting sticks that have been blown down and fallen across the yard
  • raking and collecting/removing leafy materials

It is important to remove leaves and debris to prevent clogging sewage drains and can also be a safety concern; thus, we need to eliminate the tripping hazards of small sticks and branches that may have fallen through the Winter.  We offer the ability to either take away the materials collected, or it can be piled/bagged on your property; whichever you prefer. We have been offering this service for over thirty years, and through this experience have created lasting partnerships with local contractors and farmers to help dispose of the debris we collect through natural means. Most of the material created during these cleanups is collected by a no till/organic farmer in Windham Centre, the rest is composted down and then dispersed as needed to landscape contractors.

Towards the end of the warm season, we begin out Fall Clean Ups. In much the same manner as the Spring services, we are aiding in preparing the plants and property for the long, barren, Winter sleep until Spring. During these clean ups we are able to do the following:

  • blowing/collecting up leaves and either removing or relocating as directed by property owner
  • trimming back perennials best suited to Fall timing (Hostas, Peonies, Daylilies, Raspberry bushes etc.)

For our Fall clean ups we wait until the majority of the leaves are down and before the snow falls before clearing.  This allows for neighboring trees to shed their leaves so they do not blow over onto your now professionally cleared lawn. Clearing leaves, although deadfall can be beneficial to small wildlife species, is important for lawn health and to reduce living space for less desirable creatures such as ticks. It also reveals turf areas that can then receive a Fall fertilizer to enable them to develop energy reserves over the Winter and respond better to seasonal changes in the Spring. Wind can be a troublesome factor, and sometimes we have had to delay, or been asked to return for a follow-up visit to remove ore debris that has been blown in; your satisfaction is our goal, and we are happy to return at your request for further clean up services.

Clean ups can often be co-ordinated with other services. Hedge or bush trimming (which is often recommended twice annually, with Fall or Spring being great times to initiate the routine), or garden preparation (including cultivating the soil and edging garden beds) are easily added to the task list for our crews when on your property, although they are considered separate services for billing purposes. Although we are not likely to partner lawn seeding with the Spring clean ups (slit seeding would follow a little further into the season when temperatures are warmer and rainfall is imminent), but in the Fall seeding can be a great addition to any lawn care planning, as it is a great time for moisture content and encouraging the seed to have a chance to get proper soil surface contact, encouraging successful germination when the warmer weather arrives.

A clean up of your property at the beginning and end of the lawn care season is a great way to become aware of potential issues, ensure previous issues have been resolved, and to prepare for the coming season. Let our teams at Jody’s Lawn Care take care of grunt work for you, we can have your property looking leaf and dead debris free in no time!
